Sustainable Refurbishment & Green Building Facades
The Romania Green Building Council hosted CUNDALL Engineering to provide two seminars on Sustainable Refurbishment and Green Facades: Design from the inside out.
Refurbishment does not always mean having to strip back to the shell and start again. This seminar explained how to approach refurbishment projects with the aim of maximising the reuse of existing building materials and systems including case studies of different approaches to improve comfort and performance.
Facades are an integral component of the complex systems that are modern buildings and directly influence energy efficiency, thermal and visual comfort. This seminar looked at how to balance aesthetics and performance through collaboration during the earliest stage of design and describes the three key considerations in designing facades for greener buildings: influence on overall building energy consumption, impact on perimeter zone comfort and services design, and configuration of the facade “kit of parts.”
