Building Envelopes of Green Buildings

• Introduction to passive and bioclimatic design.
• Passive solar design.

• Dynamic and multipurpose envelopes.

This course focuses on the building envelope, and how it can be designed smartly to improve comfort
while reducing energy. The course includes an overview of basic principles of light and wind, and their relationship to site and climate analysis. Relevant software, tools, and analytic methods will be introduced.

Participants will obtain an overview of how building envelopes can be optimized for passive solar gains and daylighting, as well as natural ventilation. Additionally, advanced building envelope systems will be discussed, including double skin facades, envelope-integrated renewable energy systems, and green roofs and walls.

This course is a required course for those seeking the "Romania Green Building Professional" certification.

Trainer:

Ryan Zizzo M.A.Sc., P.Eng. | LEED AP ND | Founder & Principal of ZED Consulting

Ryan works as a freelance consultant through ZED Consulting, which he launched after moving from Toronto, Canada to Helsinki, Finland in 2012. Through ZED Consulting, Ryan helps building designers and facility managers meet their sustainability goals, including obtaining stringent internationally recognized green building certifications such as LEED.

In addition to his own consulting, Ryan also lectures in the Sustainable Building Engineering program at Helsinki’s Metropolia University of Applied Science. Additionally, he is the Manager of International Sales with Bionova, a leading developer of sustainability metrics solutions, specializing in life cycle assessment. He also sits on the Technical Advisory Board for the Toronto-based Project Neutral, which focuses on improving the sustainability of neighourhoods, and contributes on behalf of Green Building Council Finland to the LEED International Roundtable.

Ryan has worked on over 40 green building and neighbourhood projects with some of Canada’s leading architects, developers, and property management firms in his previous position at the leading green engineering firm Halsall Associates in Toronto where he worked as a Project Manager. Ryan holds a Masters degree in Applied Science in Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering from the University of Toronto, is a licenced Engineer in the Province of Ontario, and holds a LEED Accredited Professional designation in Neighbourhood Development.
