GBCI's TRUE Town Hall
Location : Online
From: Wednesday 24 June 2020, 18:00
To: Wednesday 24 June 2020, 19:30

The global economy is one of immense waste. According to a report from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Corporate Citizenship Center the 5,589 largest publicly traded companies in the U.S. sent 342 million metric tons of waste to landfills and incinerators in one year. The production of goods and subsequent waste sent to landfills contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, environmental degradation, and public health concerns.

While individual action is an important part of the solution (on average Americans produce over 1,500 pounds of waste per person every year), corporate involvement is critical to achieve the change we need. The transition to a truly circular economy will require individuals and businesses alike to challenge everything we’ve been taught about waste and begin viewing our ‘trash’ as a resource rather than something to simply discard. TRUE certification is designed to help guide this transition, and support businesses in re-thinking old assumptions and re-designing processes to ensure that all resources are valued for their highest and best use.

TRUE empowers businesses to quantify their performance, guides progress towards zero waste, increases efficiency, reduces carbon emissions and operating costs, creates green jobs, and supports public health.

Ultimately, TRUE seeks to radically transform the way that businesses, campuses, and communities manage waste in the same way LEED transformed the design, construction, and operation of buildings.

The TRUE town hall is a great opportunity to learn more about the waste reduction strategies being deployed throughout the industry and hear directly from GBCI’s president and CEO on how TRUE is impacting the market and helping to achieve a healthy, equitable and resilient future for all.
